Today I’m participating with several other bloggers in “A day in the life” post – here’s a day as a stay at home/homelearning parent:
6:59am – I was woken up by the 4 year old who had slept in…heard a melodic “Mommy! Mommy I’m hungry!”
7:01am – Fed Maddie and put on a cartoon…went back to bed for 45 mins….
8:00am – Took a luxurious 5 minute shower…usually the kids start bickering so I get to have a 2 minute shower…put my hair in a side braid and was ready to face the day…sort of.
8:15am – Did my daily 15 minute meditation…standing at the kitchen island…. (On a different particularly stressful day, cheeky 9 year old Ava said, “You meditated. Well, it’s not working.”)
8:30am – Fed Ava and made my breakfast….
9:00am to 11:00am – Homelearning with Ava…language arts, science, and art…Ava put together her circuits, and we learned about the different Biomes of the planet.
12:00pm – Lunch prep…then I vacuumed the living room due to an earlier snack explosion by an unnamed child…then I cleaned up the play dough that I found squished into the carpet….then I sorted the game pieces back into the boxes of all of our board/card games that Maddie had emptied in the dining room to pretend to feed her dolls and stuffed animals with…then I searched through her costume purses for missing game pieces….
1:15pm – Just about accidentally kicked the hamster ball as I was walking and he ran between my feet…hamster soccer is frowned upon….
Ava set up a playground in the bathtub for him to get some more exercise.
1:45pm – The girls bounced around the indoor trampoline park for 2 hours….
4:00 to 4:10pm – I hid in the kitchen and ate chocolate mini eggs…I left enough for the Easter Bunny to hide for the girls….
5:30 – Dinner. Also known as “the time when the parents try to hold a conversation while the children act like different animals and characters at the dinner table”. Maybe they’ll be stage actors when they grow up….
6:30pm – Started Maddie’s bedtime routine….read a stack of books to her…then read a second stack of books to her…she was asleep by 8:00pm.
8:30pm – Started Ava’s bedtime routine…Husband read chapters from a novel to her while she played with Pipsy (the hamster). I stood in the kitchen and looked at social media on my phone…. Then I sat with Ava on her bed, and we talked about the plans for the next day until she started to fall asleep.
10:30ish – 11:30ish – My bedtime…with the ipad and gaia.com…followed by me waking a couple of times in the night to check on the girls. After years of waking in the night I can’t seem to shut that part off even though they’re getting older.
