In my interview with Floor Coverings International I talk about blogging and my recent creative project – space planning and decorating our new house. Check out the interview here.
In the dining room hangs the yarn and dowel wall hanging that I made and it sits above the bench that I re-purposed.
My Husband made the bench seat in the foyer – the top flips up for storage, and we keep the pet toys in the small baskets. I made the burlap and floral wreath that hangs on the door.
The dining room is homeschool central so for coziness I have blanket throws – including my new cream faux fur one that I love…and pillows. My Husband made the the big chalkboard – he painted a piece of plywood with black chalk paint and also magnetic paint so the girls can draw and put up artwork on it with the fridge magnets. He framed it with wood and made a bottom ledge to hold the chalk and eraser brush. Every month the girls draw items on the board that have to do with that month.
I love fabrics and soft furniture and my Husband likes vintage and Mid Century Modern so we’ve combined both. I chose fabrics from India and Turkey for the house throw pillows, combined some HomeSense and vintage accessories, and added them to the vintage teak furniture that we already had. The massive yellow goose painting is all my Husbands’ doing – I think he found it at a shop on Main St. in Vancouver. For now, the girls’ toy box is our coffee table so that they can have toys in the living room without overtaking the room.
My Husband loves this vinyl chair and orange lamp – also from a shop on Main St. in Vancouver. I made a striped pillow for the chair, added Moroccan print sheer curtains and Maddie’s faux sheepskin rug to finish that corner of the room.
The only room that hasn’t been touched is the Master bedroom so maybe this summer we’ll paint it and add a reading chair. The previous owners painted it mint green – not a colour that I would choose….
PS. I am in no way affiliated with HomeSense…I just like to shop there….
